Corporate Content Wordsmithing

Providing entertaining, engaging content for customers online is no longer optional for corporate success, it’s necessary—so necessary that generative AI is everywhere, from blogs to eBooks. But generative AI doesn’t understand your clients, your business, or even clear communication. Predictive algorithms are a useful tool, but they’re only as good as the professional overseeing them. Good content needs good content wordsmithing.

Why rely on a wordsmith for content support?

You know your craft. I know mine—words are my craft. To provide quality content and support client goals I combine:

  • Diverse experience creating online content for enterprise, start-up, and craft companies
  • An analytical eye for detail honed to meet Editors Canada standards
  • Formal education in business, persuasion & logic, and editing & communications
  • In-depth training in computer tech, QA & user support, and online analytics

From creative writer to content creator

At 13 I wrote my first short story on the family computer, and I haven’t stopped typing since. Firstly by joining my junior high school yearbook club, then making short films with friends and entering fiction and poetry competitions.

I’ve combined that early experience with an expansive education in the arts, sciences, humanities, and business—including a Douglas College business diploma and a UBC philosophy degree.

My varied knowledge and interests built a strong foundation for informative and persuasive copywriting and technical content creation from marketing plans to white papers, corporate blogging to long-form research and resources.

From copywriter to web editor

After my introduction to copywriting as a corporate blogger, I joined a web magazine focused on cannabis legalization. While other contributors understood craft cannabis, I knew how to craft engaging content and reach audiences.

Soon enough I was editing articles, and I discovered an aptitude and interest in polishing content for other writers, not just myself. This led to managing content and social media, and editing the website, a print magazine, and promotional campaigns.

As a freelance editor, to make sure I provide the best advice for writers to achieve their goals, I formalized my editing knowledge with SFU’s communications program editing certificate and Editors Canada’s editing essentials qualification.

From tech support to technical writer

While writing is my first love, technology takes a close second. My experience began working in tech as a bug hunter for enterprise system development, then as part of the QA team to develop the user manual.

Later, I used that understanding of how programs can go wrong to guide end users as a tech support agent and as an informal fix-it specialist in electronics retailing—where I also discovered a knack for peripheral networking, which led to learning about online networking and website design.

Guiding people to solve their own computer woes gives me added insight into how instructions can be misunderstood. This understanding makes me a careful web manager, a thorough technical writer, and a more-aware technical editor.

How can I support your corporate goals? Content wordsmithing

I’ve worked with companies both large and small, at all stages of implementing content plans. As well as writing and editing for marketing, magazines, and audience resource needs, I’ve had my hand in everything customer-research and content-management, from behaviour analysis to online analytics and CMS creation. And in everything I do, I focus on adding value through that sets clients apart from their competitors.

Work with me for content wordsmithing to provide entertainment, information, and communications that clearly share the benefits you offer with readers. Grow your reputation and your audience with a content support wordsmith.
